A Space to Create, Connect, and Belong The Community Art Studio is a welcoming, inclusive creative space in Forest Row, East Sussex , dedicated to bringing people together through the power of art. Our mission is to reduce social isolation and improve wellbeing by offering affordable, accessible, and inspiring opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to make art, learn, and connect. We believe creativity belongs to everyone. That’s why we offer low-cost art courses, hands-on workshops, a friendly sketchbook café, and community exhibitions where everyone — from complete beginners to experienced artists — can explore their creativity in a supportive environment. At The Community Art Studio, there’s no pressure to be perfect. It’s about self-expression, confidence, and connection — a place to experiment, unwind, and feel part of something positive and meaningful. Our Story Founded by Sinead Holly Woodnutt, an artist and qualified art therapist, The Community Art Studio grew from a deep belief in art’s ability to heal, unite, and empower. After years of working creatively with others, Sinead wanted to create a physical space where people could meet, make, and feel seen — a home for creativity and community in equal measure. Her own artwork — large-scale, intuitive paintings inspired by womanhood and emotional freedom — reflects the same openness and authenticity at the heart of the studio. Every brushstroke, workshop, and conversation here is part of something bigger: a creative movement that celebrates the strength of connection. Our Directors Franki Campbell With a background in art, fashion and healthcare, Franki is a qualified Art Therapist working with Children, Young People and Adults. She also teaches and develops domestic patterns for home sewers. Ben Matthews Ben is a digital generalist, impact-led founder and ethical leader. An event open to everyone, we invite the village to create together. All ages painting together, and connecting through the power of painting! We put a bit piece of canvas on the wall of the studio and invited people to grab a brush and jump in. We were surprised how many people showed up, and how much everyone really focused on the painting. All ages painting together is a special thing. We hope to do this over a number of months, and then celebrate all the creativity with an exhibit of them all. Alongside that we will collect people stories, and their experiences to see how community art benefits small villages. Sketchbook Cafe The Sketchbook Café is a welcoming creative space designed to bring people together through art, conversation, and community. Visitors are invited to enjoy a relaxed environment where they can sketch, paint, or simply connect over coffee.
